Ireland's location on the northwest of Europe has brought many peoples and visitors to its shores over the centuries. Along with other their other cultural traditions, they brought with them a wide range of foods. In recent times, since Ireland became one of the most prosperous countries in Europe, the variety of places to eat has increased significantly. All towns have a good variety of restaurants and cafés and visitors to the cities are offered a massive array of culinary traditions from basic Irish cuisine to European (including French, Italian, Spanish) to Asian (including Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Thai) to Mexican, Lebanese, American, and more. It is always worth looking around before you decide where to eat. Prices vary, as does the range of food available and often bargains are to be found, particularly on 'early bird' menus. Ireland is well known for its seafood tradition and fans of this are spoilt for choice in many parts of the country, particularly in coastal towns and cities. Oysters and Guinness are a traditional meal. Salmon and trout in Ireland are still very popular and many places will offer excellent wild river-caught fish. Many restaurants and bars, particularly along the West coast, offer excellent crab and lobster, and in many forms from salads to sandwiches. | |||||
